Description

Kyoto was historically the capital of the high-end textile industry and also the centre of the Japanese printing industry which made it the natural place for the publication of Textile Design Books.

The customer base for these books originally consisted primarily of kimono dealers and consumers, wholesalers, dyers, weavers and yuzen artisans.

However, although they were originally created as functional tools for the textile trade, these books were printed from hand-carved woodblocks by skilled artisans and have since come to be viewed as works of fine art.

Ueno Seiko was one of the most highly rated designers of the important Honda Unkindo design house during the early 1900’s

This is an antique, hand-crafted woodblock print from the original 1901 edition of “Yachigusa Maki no Kyu” published by Honda Unkindo, Kyoto
